Although it’s relatively simple to learn Texas Hold’em, it can take months or years to truly feel that you have become a good player. One of the most important aspects of Texas Hold’em poker is the setup of the game, which is what we will be discussing in this blog.’
Texas Hold’em Poker: The Setup
Once all the players are sitting around the poker table, ready to play Texas Hold’em, you will need to setup the table and have some chips available. We’ll discuss how many chips to give each player at a later stage, as you will understand this better if we first explain some other details.
OK, so everyone is sitting around the poker table with their chips already in hand. Now you have to choose the player who will serve as the dealer or ‘button’ position. This does not have to take long as this player will only be dealer for one hand, after which the role will be handed to the player on his side.
A popular way to choose who will be the first dealer is to hand everyone one card, or let them choose one from the pack, and the person with the highest card wins and is chosen as the dealer.
Even if you are playing at a poker establishment which has a permanent professional dealer, or have a friend who prefers to always be the dealer, the dealer button position with still rotate. This means that there will be one physical dealer and one dealer button position, which will be treated like the dealer. Everyone gets a chance to serve as the dealer button and once your hand is up, the person to the left of you gets a chance to be the dealer.
